Mann & Jeri Harris – Spotlight Alumni
Emmanuel D. & Brenda G. Harris (Mann and Jeri) Both Mann and Jeri are Camden, NC natives which is a small coastal community in northeast North Carolina (Outer Banks). They have lived in Indianapolis for almost 40 years.
Mann went to Tuskegee Institute in 1967 (the class with the Commodores and Lionel Richie) and graduated with the class of 1971 with a BS in Economics. He also studied taxation at Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY Jeri graduated from the University of Indianapolis with a BS in Accounting.
Jeri retired from General Motors after 20 years in accounting at Allison Transmission Division and Delco Remy Division. And prior to his retiring from General Motors in 1990, Mann worked 20 years in various financial positions at GM in Indiana and Michigan, including Delco Remy Division, GM Central Office and Allison Gas Turbine Division.
Currently, Mann is Chief Executive Officer of Harris & Associates, LLC, a financial and tax consulting firm He has over 40 years of experience in tax consulting and is an Enrolled Agent (EA) and licensed by the US Treasury Department to represent taxpayers before the IRS. He is a Registered Principal with LPL Financial and currently manages $100 million in investments for over 600 clients. He holds a life, health and variable annuity insurance license in Indiana and is a Certified Estate Planner (CEP) and also advises his clients on social security benefits, Long Term Care and Estate planning.
In addition, Mann is a member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents, National Association of Tax Practitioners, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority(F1NRA), and the American Academy of Certified Estate Planners, Mann serves on the Board of Trustees of the University of Indianapolis (where he earned his MBA degree) and the Elizabeth City State University Foundation (another HBCU) where he is the Chairman of the Investment Committee, He also serves on the Board of the Christel DeHaan Academy.
As for service, Mann is a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity and Jeri is an AKA. Mann is a Prince Hall Mason, Trinity Lodge and a lifetime and founding member of the Indianapolis Black MBA Association and was instrumental in obtaining 501(0) status for the 100 Black Men of Indianapolis, For Tuskegee University. Mann served both the National Alumni Association and the North Central Region as Financial Secretary for more than 10 years in the ‘80‘s and ‘90’s. Mann and Jeri are members of the Indianapolis Tuskegee Alumni Club and have hosted the Club’s annual picnic at their home, They have been members of Eastern Star Church since 1994 and Jeri serves on the Usher Board.
The Harris‘s have raised three sons in the Indianapolis area. They all are college graduates and working in their chosen fields. Tony, the oldest, is the General Manager at Home Depot in Atlanta, GA. Emmanuel II is a professor of Romance Languages and an author at UNC Wilmington, NC, and Tory is producing music in LA and teaching high school. Mann and Jeri are the proud grandparents of 7 grandchildren. They enjoy spending as much time with them as they can whenever and wherever possible, whether it’s at their home or attending their musical or sports activities It‘s always an extra special time with them and seeing their growth and achievements.
